    Het schilderij ‘Portret Koning Willem II’ is gemaakt door Nicaise de Keyser. Het jaar waarop het is vervaardigd, is onbekend. Het schilderij hangt in het Paleis Raadhuis in Tilburg. Koning Willem II is op dit schilderij geportretteerd. Koning Willem II werd in 1792 geboren in Den Haag en stierf op 17 maart 1849 in Tilburg. De Kroonprins en latere Koning Willem II verbleef graag in Tilburg, hij voelde zich hier gelukkig en vrij. Hij was hier regelmatig onder de lokale bevolking. Tilburg heeft sinds zijn dood in 1849 mooie herinneringen gekoesterd aan Koning Willem II. De koning is hier afgebeeld in zijn generaalsuniform, gesierd met het grootlint van de Militaire Willemsorde.

    Over Nicaise de Keyser

    Nicaise de Keyser is geboren op 26 augustus 1813 in Antwerpen en is daar ook overleden op 16 juli 1887. De Vlaamse romantische kunstschilder maakte voornamelijk portretten en historische taferelen. Nadat hij de opleiding aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen had afgerond, werd hij in 1855 directeur van de Academie.
